Trans Visibility Day: Nine Beautiful and Important Trans Men!

This Wednesday (29), we celebrate the National Trans Visibility Day. On this date in 2004, LGBTQ+ leaders met at the National Congress to launch the “Transvestite and Respect” campaign. It is, therefore, a day to celebrate progress and reflect on the obstacles to be overcome in the fight for the rights of trans people.

With that in mind, we made this selection of trans men, which, in addition to being beautiful, are also beautiful because of what they represent in the cause.

1. João W. Nery

João W. Nery (1950–2018) is considered the first trans man in Brazil to undergo sexual reassignment surgery. In addition to being a psychologist and writer, he is a pioneer in the fight for Brazilian LGBTQ rights.

One of the first trans actors to participate in a soap opera on Globo, Tarsus Brant, in addition to being beautiful, it has become an important symbol of representation for the trans community in Brazil.

? 20 YEARS ON T!! ? what a trip. Never thought I'd make it here. This isn't just a half naked mirror selfie, but that's fine too. It's a celebration. It's a moment of recognizing my own accomplishments. I survived until age 40 and my equinox. I've been on HRT for half of my life! Not just celebrating the physical, but definitely partially the physical journey. Because… this is what my 40 year old male body looks like. I am understanding my value as a person in a deep and embodied way for the first time. That saying “fake it till you make it” was my survival tactic but I feel like I've actually finally done it. It feels like relief. It feels like I love myself, I trust myself and I celebrate myself.
