The New York police attacked protesters last Sunday (28), International LGBT Pride Day and the 51st anniversary of the Stonewall riots, in an act favorable to the rights of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender population. The information is from BuzzFeed News.

According to the website, when the demonstration was in the Washington Square Park area, police officers attacked protesters with batons, pepper spray and knocking people to the ground; some were detained and the police had their identification numbers covered on their uniforms.

The police informed the BuzzFeed that the confusion began when agents arrested two graffiti artists. Protesters then shouted asking for both to be released. The pushing began when police officers, driving motorcycles, advanced into the crowd and pushed people.

The situation puts the city's mayor, Democrat Bill de Blasio, in hot water – he has been criticized by progressive New Yorkers for not holding the police officer accountable for the violence she committed during recent protests led by the Black Lives Matter movement.
