The impact of the report on the Fantastic (TV Globo), shown on March 1st, in which Drauzio Varella shows what life is like for trans women prisoners.

The history of Suzy Oliveira, who is serving his sentence at Penitentiary I José Parada Neto, in Guarulhos, Greater São Paulo, was particularly resonant. She told the doctor and communicator, with clear sadness in her eyes, that she hasn't received visitors in eight years. Varella reacted by giving Suzy a hug.

His attitude generated countless laudatory comments on social media – as well as Suzy moving several people and, until last Friday (6), has already received more than 230 letters -, but it was enough for the doctor to be the target of low conservative attacks coming both from digital networks and even from politicians in the Bolsonaro government.

R7, website of the Record group – declared supporter of the current president and controlled by bishops of the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God -, published last Sunday (8) an article that highlights Suzy's past.

According to the vehicle, the inmate is serving a sentence for raping and murdering a child in 2010. The information was confirmed by the Penitentiary Administration Secretariat (SAP).

In addition to revealing the re-education's male baptismal name, R7 interviewed one of her “aunts”. Although she does not give the relative's name, according to R7, her aunt told them that, as a child, Suzy “stealed, lied, didn't go to school” and after turning 12, she started stealing using weapons and smoking marijuana.

Varella then released a statement: “For more than 30 years, I have been attending prisons, where I take care of the health of male and female inmates. Everywhere I practice medicine, whether in my office or in prisons, I don't ask about what my patients may have done wrong. I follow this conduct so that my personal judgment does not prevent me from fulfilling the oath I took when I became a doctor.”

The doctor stated in the note that he follows the same principles in his work on television. He did not ask any of the trans inmates about their past. “I’m a doctor, not a judge,” he concluded.

This Monday (9) is in trending topics from Twitter to #DrauzioVarellaLixo, in which several profiles attack the doctor, insulting him and seeking to delegitimize his professionalism and even his empathy for Suzy.

Abraham Weintraub, Minister of Education in the Bolsonaro government, also joined the sad group of people and made harsh accusations against Varella and Globo – and even proposed a boycott of the broadcaster.

Where are we going to stop?
