It's a man! American bookstores censor androgynous model's chest on the cover of Dossier

In April the The Cape published the cover of Dossier magazine with androgynous model Andrej Pejic. Now the news has come that two American bookstores, Barnes & Noble and Borders, have censored the cover because they consider it too explicit. All Borders stores placed black bands on Andrej's chest and the magazines were sealed in plastic bags. The curious thing is that Andrej is a man and what would be the problem with showing a naked male chest?

According to Skye Parrott, co-founder and creative director of Dossier, only American bookstores are complaining. "It's a naked man on the cover of a magazine, which is done all the time, so I definitely don't think the magazine deserves this. It's not a coincidence that only the giant US chain stores are asking us to do this... It's only the American copies that are being censored," Parrott told the Huffington Post.

Mary Ellen Keating, a spokeswoman for Barnes & Noble, said that allegations that her company was censoring the magazine were completely inaccurate and that there was no disagreement between the bookstore and the magazine's editors. "There was absolutely no conflict," she told The Advocate magazine's website.

Andrej has been making waves in the fashion world, precisely because of his androgyny. In June he arrives in Brazil to model exclusively for the Ausländer brand at Fashion Rio.
