“It’s a mafia”, says Carla Rangel, second runner-up in the Miss World Competition

Second place in the Miss World Competition 2008, held last night at the Piratininga club, Carla Rangel (in the photo on the right), 26 years old, representing Zambia, does not intend to compete in Miss Brasil Gay, which will take place in August of the year comes to the city of Juiz de Fora.

"It's a mafia," said the candidate to the website's report The Cape while changing, after the results of the ceremony confirmed Jaqueline Boomèr (in the photo on the left), Miss Greece, as the big winner of the night. "It's a marked card contest", said Carla. A friend of the candidate comments backstage to the reporter that "the result of the contest was already known a week ago."

"You can put it there in the interview. I don't intend to compete in Miss Brasil Gay next year", declared unsatisfied with second place Carla Rangel, who, as runner-up, won the right to represent Santa Catarina in the traditional gay contest. "It's that thing, second place is never first." Some friends asked the reporter "not to publish what she said", another said "yes to publish".

Meanwhile, on stage, the lucky Jaqueline Boomèr, "with two 'ós' and a big 'e'", aged 27 and weighing 65kg, winner of the contest, was mobbed by friends and acquaintances who wanted to take photos with the newest Miss Tocantins. In an interview with the website The Cape, the candidate stated that she intends to research the State to "represent it well next year".

Jaqueline during the day, when she is disassembled, goes by the name Jackson Lopes, works as a hairdresser, makeup artist and musician. In addition to the title, the representative of Greece won the prizes for Miss Fotogenia, best evening outfit – made by Jair Fernandes and Ribas Azevedo, organizer of the contest – and typical costume – created by stylist Bruno Oliveira.

Crisis, what crisis?
Last night was one of high numbers when it comes to productions and dresses. According to Ribas Azevedo, organizer of the competition, holding the event required an investment of R$12 thousand. One of the most expensive costumes was that of Miss Greece – a huge snake head, from which the candidate came out for her number, representing the hair of a medusa, made with fiberglass, iron, and mortar, among other materials. According to Oliveira, the clothes cost around R$30.

At night
The celebration at the Piratininga club was marked by extensive performances presented by gay night figures, such as Renata Peron and Antara Gold. The shows meant that the event, which was delayed, ended at 5am.

In the dressing room, Jaqueline Boomér's makeup artist, Marcio Granada, lost his makeup kit. "Next time I'll charge a lot more", said the boy jokingly.

Not typical
The best moments of the parade were the parade of the candidates' typical costumes. Among those who drew the most applause from the public was Carolina Navarro. Miss Thailand entered the stage carried by four gogo boys, representing a goddess of the country. In her presentation, Miss used sparks and sky paper.

Another one that stood out was Miss Iceland, representing an ice queen. The candidate's soundtrack was Björk, as expected. Miss Siberia drew much applause when, in the middle of her performance, a white Siberian husk dog with blue eyes appeared on stage.

What really surprised the audience was the unusual presentation of Carla Rangel, Miss Zambia. With the opening song from the film Lion King, a group of boys danced and, among them, one held a snake. When Miss entered the stage, she was holding a yellow Python snake behind her neck.

"My good friend Melissa Ambrósio came up with the idea [of taking the snake]. The guy I rented it from has authorization from Ibama, he has already been to Gugu. I was worried about people's safety and wanted to take all precautions," he explained. Carla while hearing from friends that she had crushed it.

The snake was the big behind-the-scenes sensation. Some present wanted to take photos with the animal, others wanted to hold it.

dorflex
Due to delays, the contest ended around 5am. "We're not beating around the bush, we want it to end close to the time the subway opens", joked Silvetty Montilla, presenter of the event alongside Gretha Star. Working all night (Silvetty performed at Queen, before going to Miss World) the entertainer even asked the audience for a Dorflex to ease a headache. Gretha was tired too. When a friend suggested she sit down she said she was "dying to do it" but that she wouldn't sit down because "it would look ugly".
