Ellen DeGeneres speaks out against Proposition 8

Presenter and actress Ellen DeGeneres said she was against the bill, called Proposition 8, which attempts to ban same-sex marriage in California.

DeGeneres, who recently married actress Portia De Rossi, wrote on her blog: “There is a bill in California that is a little confusing. It's Proposition 8. Don't let that name fool you. It's not protecting anyone's marriage. Not your's. Neither mine. I don't know if I've made it clear yet, but I'm in favor of gay marriage. And in order to protect that right – please vote against Proposition 8. I beg you. I can't return my wedding gifts. I loved my new toaster.”

Campaigns against the approval of Proposition 8 have grown in recent weeks, with large donations, including from celebrities, such as actor Brad Pitt, and multinationals, such as Google.

On the other side, supporters of Proposition 8 have raised around $1,2 million since August to try to push for the bill's passage.
