In meeting, Prince William commits to supporting the LGBT community

Future King of England, current Duke of Cambridge, Prince William committed, during a meeting with a human rights representative, to supporting the LGBT community in their search for equality and rights. The prince attended a reception hosted by Commonwealth Secretary-General Patricia Scotland to mark Commonwealth Day. At the event, they met with representatives from several Commonwealth-affiliated groups, including a representative from the Commonwealth Equality Network (TCEN) and Kaleidoscope Trust. 37 of the 53 Commonwealth countries continue to criminalize consensual same-sex acts, mainly under laws that were imposed during the British colonial era and have never been completely repealed – but Prince William has not hesitated to talk about equality. At the event, Prince William said he is a supporter of LGBT rights. Discussing TCEN's work, the Prince added that he tries to cooperate and increase LGBT rights when traveling in other countries, and also promised to do so in the future.
