In the TV series Batwoman, the title character, played by Ruby Rose, not only fights crime on the streets of Gotham City – but also homophobia.

In an episode shown in the United States last weekend, Batwoman publicly came out of the closet after meeting a young lesbian woman, Parker Torres (Malia Pyles), whose parents do not accept her.

The heroine then decides to also declare that she is a lesbian in an interview with Catco, a fictional magazine within the series, to be an inspiration for LGBTQ youth. She is interviewed by Kara Denvers (Melissa Benoist), the journalist who is Supergirl's alter-ego.

The superheroine had not done this before because she was afraid of revealing her identity behind the mask: Kate Kane, a lesbian who openly lives her sexual orientation.

The series is inspired by DC comics and is about to conclude its first season. In Brazil, it is shown on Warner Channel.
