The singer Beyoncé, 38, called for justice for George Floyd, the black man recently asphyxiated to death, aged 46, by a police officer in Minneapolis, Minnesota, an event that is the trigger for the wave of protests that have taken place in the United States against the country's systemic racism .

“We all witnessed his murder in broad daylight,” said the pop star on Instagram, referring to the video in which Floyd’s death was recorded. In the images, which have circulated intensely on the internet since the incident on May 25, the victim is subdued by a police officer, Derek Chauvin, who kneels on his neck and remains there for almost nine minutes, until Floyd becomes unconscious – and for another almost three minutes after the victim reaches that state.

“We are heartbroken and disgusted. We can’t normalize this pain,” Beyoncé continued.

“George is our family, because he is American. There have been several times when we see these violent murders, and there are no consequences [for the culprits]. Yes, someone has been accused, but justice is far from achieved.”

The singer also asked her almost 150 million followers on the network to support the cause by donating to institutions that combat racism in the USA.
