The collective marriage was an initiative of the Court of Justice of Santa Catarina in partnership with the Associação Amigos em Ação de Santa Catarina. And, at no cost to brides and grooms, it aims to promote the citizenship of the LGBT community.

"The project aims to guarantee equal rights between people, without distinction of their sexual orientation, respecting and promoting the dream of each couple", declared organizer Luciana Bastos Silva, the "Lu do Bem", which has been holding collective weddings since 2005. "The event had everything it deserves: red carpet, decoration…".

According to the organization, the majority of couples were formed by women, but included the presence of gay men and a trans woman. Each couple was entitled to 20 guests, who were attended by a justice of the peace who represented all the registry offices involved. Everyone has already left with their marriage certificates in their hands; and there was a lot of crying and declarations of love.
