São Paulo gay meeting begins with theatrical intervention

The 4th Paulista Gay Meeting began this Thursday (02/07), at the Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCAR). Unlike other events, which normally start with classic openings, where what stands out are the speeches of organizers and supporters, the meeting in the interior of São Paulo decided to start in a light, but no less provocative, way.

To welcome participants in the political event, which will culminate in the 2nd Gay Parade, a theatrical intervention was presented by the Piracicaba NGO CASVI. The play, in fact, is made up of several short sketches that subvert the issue of homophobia.

To better understand. The first story is a young man on the phone complaining to someone who can no longer bear prejudice at home. And he asks indignantly: "How come I suffer more homophobia at home than on the street?" Next, the story tells of a transsexual being treated by an outpatient clinic that insists on treating trans women by their social name.

The third sketch takes place in a gay society, where teachers and the director of a random school are horrified by a story that has reached the major newspapers: their establishment has a heterosexual couple, who boldly walk hand in hand and kiss in public. Outraged, teachers and principal decide that such absurdity cannot continue to happen and decide to expel the straight couple.

In another context, several candidates interviewed for the position of manager wait to receive the results in a room. The candidates are a gay man, a trans woman, a trans man, a transvestite and a heterosexual, this is the most qualified, but ends up being passed over for the position. He is angry and says he will seek his rights and fight for inclusion.

Also hilarious is the couple in tears, as they have just discovered that their youngest son is heterosexual, and the mother reveals to the father that she caught her son masturbating in the bathroom with a heterosexual pornographic magazine. The father shouts from all corners: "Where did I go wrong? What am I going to say at the company barbecues now?"

More than subverting the issue of homophobia and transforming it into heterophobia, the play proposes a reflection on exclusion itself. In other words, it is not good for any society for subjects who are deprived of their most basic rights: from being able to masturbate while looking at equals to competing for a position and who, despite having all the required qualities, are disqualified because of their sexual orientation. .

Moral of the story: neither a homosexual nor a heterosexual society. And, yes, an environment where all the characters can coexist and share the same space. Great way to start a political event that will end in the carnival of the Gay Parade, which is as important as the debates about rights.

This Friday (03/07), the mayor of São Carlos, Olwaldo Barba (PT), attended the official opening of the event. Find out more today here on the website The Cape.
