A ACT (Albert Kennedy Trust), an LGBT entity in the United Kingdom, announced that it advises young gays, lesbians, bisexuals and transgender people not to come out of the closet amid the new coronavirus pandemic.

According to the CEO of AKT, Tim Sigsworth, it is important to “think hard” before taking the step of coming out to your family, since nowadays it is still common for LGBT young people to be kicked out of their home or prefer to leave their home because they are not feel comfortable with their family, in cases of gender discrimination and/or sexual orientation.

“You cannot predict in these completely unprecedented times how your parents might react. They, like you, are under a lot of stress and may not react in a positive way,” Sigsworth told Sky News.

The CEO said that, during the period of social distancing as a measure to prevent the spread of the virus, “it can be a dangerous time for a vulnerable young person”.

Sigsworth mentioned in the interview that in the United Kingdom, more than three-quarters of LGBT people experiencing homelessness have left their homes after episodes of LGBTphobia.
