After a year of fighting in court and two of training, Scottish James Bushe, 31, recently realized his dream of becoming a commercial airline pilot, becoming the first person with HIV/Aids to do so in Europe. The information is from BuzzFeed News.

Before Bushe achieved the feat, the now Loganair pilot overturned a ban from the United Kingdom's Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), which prevented HIV-positive people from obtaining a license to fly commercial planes. The ban is an interpretation made by the CAA of the legislation of its regulatory institution, the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA).

In 2017, anonymously, Bushe began his fight in European justice to reverse this. After realizing his dream, he went public to show that HIV should not stop anyone from realizing a dream.

“There was a moment when I thought this wouldn’t be possible,” Bushe said in an interview with BuzzFeed News.

“I feel incredibly proud and privileged to be in this position.”
