British study reveals average penis size; know what it is

Penis size is a question (and often a discomfort) that many men have. After all, what is the average and "normal" size of the male sexual organ?

Researcher-led David Veale, from King's College London, a British survey released this Tuesday (3) compiled data from 17 studies, with around 15.521 men, which gave a number considered the closest to reality.

According to the study, the average length of a flaccid penis is 9,16 centimeters and, stretched, 13,24 centimeters. The size of the erect penis is 13,12 centimeters. The average circumference of a flaccid penis is 9,31 cm and an erect penis is 11,66 cm.

According to Veale, the studies are useful for counseling men who are concerned about their organs and, in some cases, even present with body dysmorphic disorder – when the person has a perception of their body that is different from the real one.

"We believe this data will help doctors reassure the vast majority of men that their penis size is within the normal range. We will also use it to examine the discrepancy between what a man believes to be his measures and their reality".

The urologist Eduardo Bertero, representative of Andrology at the Brazilian Society of Urology, states in an interview with the newspaper O Globo that 10 out of 15 patients have doubts about the size of their penis and that in 98% of cases everything is correct with the measurements.

"At the height of free access to pornography, many people still think that the 20-centimeter penises of the actors who appear in films are normal. In fact, they are the ones that are outside of what is seen as standard."

According to him, an erect penis that reaches 10 centimeters in length is considered functional. And so-called micropenises reach less than 7 centimeters. Bertero warns that penis enlargement treatments are not reliable.

"The treatments are still very embryonic and experimental. In Brazil, there is no method approved by the Brazilian Society of Urology. I have seen several cases of people who had surgery and ended up with deformed organs."
