Pete Buttigieg He is the Democratic Party's only gay pre-candidate for the presidential elections to be held in November this year. However, the fact that the former mayor of South Bend, Indiana, is gay is insufficient to win the vote of the LGBT population in the United States.

In recent weeks, international news has been circulating that activists have been protesting at Buttigieg's campaign events, confronting the candidate.

According to Guardian, at a recent fundraising event in San Francisco – an iconic city for LGBT activism in the USA -, activists protested both inside and outside the rally, accusing Buttgieg of having elitist socioeconomic proposals.

“It's difficult to support him when his speeches are so 'middle of the road' and are mainly aimed at white, upper-middle class audiences,” activist Celi Tamayo-Lee told the British newspaper.

“We deserve better,” said another activist, Adiel Pollydore. “The people who interrupted the event are all LGBT and non-white. We can hope that the gay candidate will do better for queer and non-white communities. There’s nothing homophobic about it,” she recounted, responding to comments from Buttigieg supporters who called the activists “homophobic.”

According to research, the pre-candidate has actually had difficulty attracting the votes of LGBT Americans uniformly. The former South Bend mayor's voters are overwhelmingly conservative, middle-aged or elderly, and people whose annual earnings reach $100 or more.

Apparently, LGBT Americans are demanding not only attention to the movement's agenda, but also a special look at socioeconomic inequality.

Buttgieg won the Iowa primaries, but lost the next one, in New Hampshire, to Bernie Sanders – the socialist candidate who more has attracted the LGBT vote.

Both are the Democrats' main candidates for the opportunity to face Donald Trump at the polls in November.
