Former player Sam Stanley announces engagement to Laurence Hicks: “We are very happy”

Together for seven years, the former English rugby player, Sam Stanley, announced, through his Instagram profile last Sunday, the 30th, that he is engaged to Laurence Hicks. In the publication, Sam made a declaration of love for his fiancé and emphasized the moments they spent together, including the beginning of their relationship, when he was not yet out (Stanley came out of the closet in 2015). “Lorenzo has already pretended to be my godfather, uncle, cousin and everything else so that no one would find out about our relationship”, he wrote, adding: “(He) is the kindest guy I have ever met! I’m so happy to say we’re engaged.” Because of their differences, both physical and age, the couple was heavily criticized by internet users. To Attitude magazine, the former player commented on the criticism and said “We are judged by everything in this world… Laurence and I love each other and that's what matters to us”, he said. “We are happy to give visibility to many other couples who are not like us”, he concluded. The couple met in 2010 through an app for younger people looking for older men.
