Freddie Mercury's ex-boyfriend dies at age 60

Jim Hutton, Freddie Mercury's last companion, passed away last week, aged 60, from cancer.

Hutton (pictured, left) lived with Mercury for six years before the Queen frontman died from complications caused by AIDS in November 1991.

Queen guitarist Brian May reported Hutton's death on his official website: "We announce and mourn the death of Jim Hutton following a long smoking-related illness. Jim and Freddie (Mercury) were close for many years, certainly in In modern parlance they would have been called 'civil partners'. Jim was a calm and gentle soul, impressed and frankly excited by the machinations of fame, rock and roll, and Queen, and who thus provided Freddie with a pleasant and different outlook on life. .Jim was dedicated to gardening and breeding koi, which gave Freddie much pleasure in his pond at Garden Lodge. Our sincere condolences to his brothers and family.

Jim Hutton worked as Mercury's hairdresser and was also HIV positive, a fact he kept secret until a few months before the singer's death.

He was cremated last Sunday (3/01) in the city of Bennekerry, Ireland.
