“There is a lack of beating” – Claudio Botelho criticizes Laverne Cox and defends violence against transsexuals

The director Claudio Botelho made comments prejudiced and violent against transsexuals on a social network this weekend.

He said they are like that because they don't get beaten by their parents. ''Spanking is missing,'' she stated.

He is rehearsing a musical that has this theme, “The Rock Horror Picture Show”, alongside his partner Charles Möeller and scheduled to premiere in November, in São Paulo.

The incident comes less than eight months after the controversy in Belo Horizonte, when he was booed by the public after swearing at former presidents Dilma Rousseff and Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva during a performance of “All the Musicals of Chico Buarque in 90 Minutes”.

At the time, an audio was leaked of the director, nervous, in his dressing room, in which he said: “An actor cannot be boobed by a black man”. Chico Buarque banned him from putting together his work after this episode.

This time, Botelho's target is transgender people. He criticized the casting of the trans actress Laverne Cox for the role of Dr. Frank-N-Furter on an American TV channel. In Botelho's words: “Guys, this kind of thing is spreading because parents don't hit their children anymore. There’s no beating!”

He continued to defend parental violence in the case of a transgender child. “If their father hits them, they at least know it's wrong and they'll give it to their school friend to get revenge, they don't keep inventing that they're trans, they dedicate themselves to finding a man and stop wanting the spotlight,” he wrote.

Botelho also criticized the opportunities for transgender people in the world of entertainment. ''The spotlight is on Judy [Garland], Barbra [Streisand] and Rogéria, the rest are drugged fagots from rave parties,” he said. And he also attacked a transgender neighbor.

When his work partner Charles Möeller said that the Fox show was “Rocky PAVOR GLEE Show”, Botelho replied: “Do they have these trans people at Disney too? Are they going to remake Snow White? I wanted to suggest a boy here in my building who is queer, but his mother thinks he looks bad, so they are making up that he is TRANS, because he says it's the same thing as queer, but it's chic. He's very handsome, but the only music he listens to, at 15 years old, is an album by a certain Selena [Gomez]. OK?".

The director also stated that he has “the soul of a blonde and blue eyes”.

After being criticized for what he wrote, Botelho deleted the comments.

When contacted via consultancy, Claudio Botelho has not commented on his statements so far.
