Famous Hollywood actor comes out as gay after harassment allegations

Sexual harassment in the artistic world is more common than you think. Fortunately, those being harassed are increasingly deciding to speak out and denounce their tormentors, thus encouraging an end to this disgusting behavior. On the 29th, actor Anthonny Rapp, from the series “Star Trek: Discovery”, reported, in an interview with BuzzFeed News, sexual harassment suffered by Kevin Spacey, when he was starting his career and was 14 years old. At the time, in 1986, Spacey was 26. “He was trying to seduce me. I don't know if I would have used that term (at the time). But I knew he was trying to get with me sexually. He was pressing himself against me. I was paralyzed,” he said. After the article aired and the subject had repercussions around the world, Kevin Spacey used social media to comment on the matter. The artist, winner of two Oscars, apologized to Rapp, said he did not remember what happened and, finally, spoke publicly for the first time about his homosexuality. “I have a lot of respect and admiration for Anthony Rapp as an actor. I am more than horrified to hear this story. Honestly, I don't remember the meeting, it would have been 30 years ago. But if I behaved as he describes, I owe him the most sincere apology for what would have been completely inappropriate drunken behavior and I am sorry for the feelings he says he has carried with him all these years. This story encouraged me to talk about other aspects of my life. I know there are stories about me floating around and some of them have been fueled by the fact that I have always been careful about my privacy. As those closest to me know, I have had relationships with both men and women. I have loved and dated men my entire life, and I now choose to live as a gay man. I want to deal with this openly and honestly, and that starts with me examining my own behavior.” Currently playing the emblematic character Frank Underwood in the fictional Netflix series, House Of Cards, Spacey was widely criticized and accused of coming out as gay at that time just to “hush up” the accusations of harassment.
