Fernando Grostein Andrade, brother of TV presenter Luciano Huck, decided to do a live on Facebook to talk about the time he came out as gay to his family.

This week, the 39-year-old filmmaker, on the occasion of June being internationally celebrated LGBT Pride month, brought together his brother and mother, architect Marta Grostein. It was during a dinner, when Fernando was 21 years old.

“We started having dinner and then you said: 'Mom, I'm gay'. This revelation was very unexpected for me, it caught me by surprise, off guard, something that had never crossed my mind”, said the mother.

“I started crying, that was my instant reaction. Everything made me afraid, a fear of what you could suffer in life, what could happen to you, the difficulties you could go through.”

In the live, the filmmaker said that the decision came after he was kidnapped with a prostitute with whom he had one of his first sexual experiences with another man.

“I [already] had gone through very difficult situations for not coming out. I think one of my first experiences was with a prostitute, who ended up kidnapping me. That was a very difficult thing for me, I felt dirty, wrong…”, he said.

He also said he was a “gay homophobe”. “I was full of prejudices. And in this whirlwind of emotion, I said this to you [Marta] and you said: 'Fê, it took you 20 years to resolve this, give me some time to resolve this too. It’s not an immediate thing,” he continued.

Grostein, who is also a columnist for Veja, published in its space in the magazine an emotional account of the mother, in which she talks about the difficult adaptation to reality, knowing that everyone would have to deal with homophobia.

In the end, everything worked out. Grostein is engaged and is openly and proudly gay.
