San Remo Festival awards song about 'ex-gay'

The controversial song 'Luca was gay' by singer Povia, which talks about the "cure" of homosexuality, came in 2nd place at the 59th edition of the San Remo Festival, which took place last Saturday (21/02), in Italy.

The festival, organized by the private TV channel 'Canale 5' from Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi's group, was won by Marco Carta with the song 'La Forza Mia' (My Strength).

A few hours before the final of the contest began, LGBT groups demonstrated in the center of San Remo against the runner-up. Activists believe the song is a "new attack by society against homosexuals, lesbians and transsexuals".

'Luca was gay' tells of a young man, Luca, who was gay, but "cured and became 'normal' again after happily marrying a woman".
