The folk singer and iconic LGBT rights and environmental activist Melissa Etheridge, 58, announced that her son Beckett Cypher died this week at age 21.

Although he did not provide a specific cause, Etheridge said that the boy had health complications resulting from drug addiction. Beckett is one of the children the singer had with ex-partner Julie Cypher.

"My heart is broken. I am grateful to those who have reached out to offer condolences,” she wrote online. “I will sing again soon. It always healed me.”
