Several cultural events have been canceled due to the coronavirus, but the Flip (Paraty Literary Festival), Brazil's main literature event, adopted an optimistic stance by maintaining the 2020 agenda and the measures recommended by health experts.

And to the joy of LGBT and black people, the queer and black poet announced Danez Smith as this year's guest.

Smith, who defines himself as a non-binary person, is one of the main names in contemporary American poetry and addresses themes such as race, gender and identity in his work.

Smith's first book to be released in Brazil is the acclaimed Don't Say We're Dead, which hits stores in May from the publisher Bazar do Tempo. For the book, she became a finalist for the National Book Award, one of the biggest literary awards in the world.

The 18th edition of Flip is scheduled to take place from July 29th to August 2nd in Paraty.
