“It was challenging”: Theodoro Cochrane’s gay character comes out of the closet at the end of Saramandaia

Deputy Petronilio's sexuality was a big question in the soap opera “Saramandaia”, which ended last Friday (27) with the character's coming out of the closet.

Played by actor Theodoro Cochrane, Petronilio was very concerned about the opinion of the city's residents. He didn't drink, he didn't have sexual relations and he didn't go to Dona Risoleta's (Debora Bloch) boarding house, considered in the region to be a den of perdition.

However, when the city changed its name and Bole-Bolenses began to live more freely, the police chief didn't think twice and decided to free himself from his ties by opening the closet door. The character ended the plot very well accompanied, with a circus trapeze artist played by Diego Cristo.

“I found it very unusual, funny and challenging to play a gay man without falling into the comic stereotype. I think that, in itself, the situation is already very fun”, declared Theodoro Cochrane.

According to the actor, who is now preparing to premiere the play “A Mesa”. the soap opera ended with an “acceptance ending”.
