Brazilian Air Force recognizes husband of homosexual sergeant as dependent

After the National Council of Justice (CNJ) approved a resolution that obliges registry offices across the country to celebrate civil marriages and converting a stable same-sex union into marriage, it was the turn of the Brazilian Air Force to contribute to the end of differences and recognize the gay union of a 29-year-old sergeant.

The soldier, whose name was not disclosed, filed a request to register her husband, a 35-year-old salesman, as a dependent. The couple, who have been together for more than 3 years, tied the knot on February 4th this year.

According to the FAB, the sergeant, who has worked as a flight controller for 7 years, presented a public deed declaring their stable union. Now, the couple will have the same benefits as married heterosexual soldiers, including Air Force health insurance, a pension and other benefits in the event of the soldier's death.

The name of the sergeant and the seller were published in the ostensito bulletin as is standard procedure for all cases of recognition requests.
