Gay accuses civil guards of homophobic aggression in Largo do Arouche, in São Paulo

Erisvaldo Ferreira de Melo, 26 years old, is accusing civil guards of attacking him in the early hours of last Monday (31). The attack would have happened due to homophobia.
The young man says he was on Rua Vieira de Carvalho, close to Largo do Arouche, when he saw a gay couple being detained by the guards. “They weren't doing anything, but the guard wanted to put them both in the car”, revealed the boy.

He says he tried to intervene, but was slapped in the face. “They slapped me in the face, they didn’t even say anything. They just called me a fagot and beat me. They said I should respect them and not kiss in front of them", said the young man who has already filed a police report.

The Metropolitan Civil Guard denies Erisvaldo's version. In a note published by the Urban Security Secretariat, they say that seven young people caused a disturbance in the center of São Paulo, even breaking part of the vehicle's fender and attacking a civil guard.

The note also says that the "Metropolitan Civil Guard also emphasize that they repudiate any homophobic attitude on the part of their employees, who are guided and trained to protect all citizens, without any distinctions."
