Geraldo Alckmin vetoes bill that punishes homophobia in São Paulo stadiums

This week, the governor of São Paulo Geraldo Alckmin vetoed Bill No. 1100/2017, which proposed punishment for fans and clubs that reproduce acts of homophobia inside stadiums during football games. The parliamentarian explained that the reason he decided to block the text was that article 243-G, of the Brazilian Code of Sports Justice prohibits any discriminatory acts such as racism, among others. Even without mentioning prejudice against LGBTs, he believes that it addresses the issue. Authored by State Deputy Edmir Cheined (DEM-SP), the PL aimed to more specifically prohibit episodes of racism and homophobia suffered by fans and players in São Paulo stadiums, through penalties. When it comes to voting in October, don't forget that this same politician will be a candidate for president.
