Olympic gymnast Danell Leyva surprised fans and announced his bisexuality on social media. According to the athlete, he still doesn't know exactly what he is (bi or pan), but he's been sure for years that he's not straight.
Danell competes for the USA, and won bronze in the individual all-around competition in London 2012 and silver in the parallel and horizontal bars in Rio 2016. He said it was very difficult and terrifying to come out publicly about his sexuality, but he knew it was the right time.
“I knew for a long time that I wasn’t straight. But for very personal reasons, I have always rejected this side of me”, wrote Leyva.
“Earlier this year I finally understood that I'm bi/pan (still trying to figure that out), but I also realized that, at least as of now, I'm not attracted to cis men. (This comes with the personal reasons I just mentioned). But I felt like it was time to finally share this with you all. As many of you can imagine, this is absolutely terrifying.”
