In the TV categories, the highlight was HBO, which scored 14 nominations between established series, such as "Game of Thrones" and "Veep", and new ones, such as "Westworld" and "Insecure".

"La La Land" competes in seven categories, such as comedy or musical film, direction (Damien Chanzelle), actress (Emma Stone), soundtrack, screenplay, actor (Ryan Gosling) and song ("City of Stars"). Award-winning titles at the Venice and Toronto festivals and critical awards, Chanzelle's musical follows a jazz pianist (Gosling) and a beginning actress (Stone) who meet upon arriving in Los Angeles and fall madly in love, but have difficulty make the relationship work while seeking success.

"Moonlight", about a young black man discovering his homosexuality, appears in six categories: dramatic film, direction (Barry Jenkins), original soundtrack, supporting actor (Mahershala Ali), screenplay and supporting actress (Naomie Harris). Highly praised and also winning awards from North American critics, the film has been gaining momentum as a contender for the 2017 Oscars.

Although the Golden Globe has no direct influence on the Oscars, because it is chosen by a completely different group of voters, the award is seen as a kind of barometer of the prestige of films, and many nominations end up being repeated, especially in the dramatic film category. .
