Gay graffiti artist Keith Haring gains exposure in SP

Visual artist Keith Haring (1958-1990) is one of the most important exponents of modern art in the world. Father of graffiti, the North American elevated the style to the category of art, transferring his work from the streets to New York galleries. Alongside Jean-Michel Basquiat, Haring is mainly responsible for making this street-gallery migration.

This Saturday, July 31st, Caixa Cultural Paulista opens the exhibition "Selected Works", which commemorates the 20th anniversary of the artist's death – openly gay, Keith was a victim of HIV.

The exhibition features 94 works, all new in Brazil, on canvas and paintings. In addition, 60 objects divided between photographs, videos, documents and even pairs of the artist's sneakers – he was also influential in transforming street fashion, with Snickers sneakers, into art and a fashionista item.

Haring's unmistakable style will be present with his multi-colored paintings, usually starring the famous dancing dolls. Colorful aliens, parties – pre-raves – and happy animals are also part of her repertoire of main works.

In short, an unmissable exhibition by an artist who marked the 80s, but who today is still current and modern.
