LGBT group reproduces eroticized gay version of Holy Communion and causes controversy in Italy

Religion and eroticism are like oil and water: no matter how much you try to mix, they will always be divergent, especially if the eroticism in question is homo-affective.

In Salerno, Italy, the LGBT organization Divercity caused controversy by reproducing a gay and eroticized version of Holy Communion, to publicize a party that took place on the night of last Thursday (Holy for Catholics), 13. The image shows Jesus with his twelve disciples naked or with little clothing, kissing and in a kind of sexual kama sutra.

The response from the city's conservative wing was immediate. Raffaele Adinolfi, local representative of the II Popolo della Famiglia party, said that, on behalf of the organization, it is his duty to "publicly express our indignation and invite all the inhabitants of Salerno, believers and non-believers, to do the same."

"The image is offensive and an alternative to just one thing: good taste" continues Adinolfi, who expressed a request for the party to be cancelled. For him, minorities want respect, but are not willing to respect the other side.

OTHER SIDE

In response on Facebook to the conservative party's offensive, Emanuele Avagliano, one of the organizers of DiverCity, declared that they respect "other people's opinions, but we equally reiterate with strength and conviction our freedom to live and have fun the way we see fit," he wrote. . “Furthermore, we emphasize that the piece of communication we use is not intended to blaspheme, offend, or disrespect,” he defended.

"Our colors, our smiles and our hearts cannot and should not be contained by people who hide behind political racism and homophobia", concludes Avagliano.

In May 2016, the Italian Court legalized same-sex unions in the country.
