Man attacks and runs over transsexual in the West Zone of Rio; Victim almost had his foot amputated

A transsexual, identified as Grazyelle Silva, aged 28, was attacked and run over by a man on Sunday morning (18/03). The victim reported the case of transphobia to the Special Coordination of Sexual Diversity (Ceds Rio), on Monday afternoon (26/03). Grazyelle told Ceds Rio that she was attacked on Avenida das Américas, in front of the Vendas de Varandas BRT station, near Santa Cruz, at around 7am. She was taken to Pedro ll Municipal Hospital, in Santa Cruz, and underwent surgery to reconstruct her left leg. In a conversation with Ceds Rio employees, she was outraged by the hate crime and asked for justice. The transsexual stated that she will file a complaint at a police station next Wednesday (28/03). “I didn't go to the police station because I'm still immobilized in bed, I don't feel safe, he attacked me, then accelerated the car and threw me away,” she said. Even though she was injured, Grazyelle managed to photograph the alleged attacker's face and the car's license plate. The Coordinator regretted the crime and said it will monitor the case. The Special Coordinator of Sexual Diversity, Nélio Georgini, stated that he will intensify awareness campaigns against LGBTphobia in the West Zone.
