Gay man is convicted of sexually abusing a woman; he swears innocence

Joan Cardona, 27 years old, seeks to prove his innocence to the accusation that he sexually assaulted a Spanish woman at the door of her apartment on November 19, 2012, in Barcelona.

Detail: Joan is gay, claims that she did not commit the crime and seeks out the media, such as the newspaper El Mundo, to publicize the case and prove that she is innocent.

The accusation occurred when the woman found him in the supermarket where she works. Although she said she had never seen the attacker before, the woman stated that she recognized the customer from the establishment immediately.

Shortly afterwards, Joan received a summons to appear in court and was sentenced to three years in prison for the crime he said he never committed. He even took family and friends to testify under oath that he is homosexual.

The first appeal was rejected and now he awaits the Constitutional Court's decision. The case has been publicized on social media and divided people's opinions.
