Man who attacked students due to homophobia in Rio is identified

Young people attacked in Rio de Janeiro

The Rio de Janeiro Police managed to identify the man who attacked two students at a school in the Méier neighborhood in Rio de Janeiro. He injured the victims with blows to the head, punches and kicks. All of this was motivated by homophobia, according to one of the victims.

The attacker is an adult man who is still studying in his first year of high school at the school. He threatened the young people before the attack with a stick and homophobic speeches.

“When we are going up the stairs, this person is coming down the stairs, looking at us with hatred. Arriving at the second part of the stairs, this boy arrived behind us, taking off his shirt, saying that he wasn't a faggot, saying that he was going to kill us all the time. Saying: 'I'm going to kill you, I'm not a fagot, I'm going to kill you', with a hateful face, wanting to come at me”, one of the victims reported to G1.

“My friend fell to the ground and I was in shock. I did not know what to do. Right after he put my friend down, my friend fell to the ground and he came at me. That’s when he tried to hit me in the head too, but I dodged it,” he said.
