Men adhere to techniques to improve their butt

Reshaping the shapes

With technology in favor of aesthetics, men adhere to techniques to give that (basic) lift to the butt. It’s the end of the “ironing board” era for men.

Brazil has always been known for its phenomenal “backsides”. No, I'm not talking about Juliana Paes or Carla Perez. The story here is different: they are male tambourines. Far from shame and prejudice, the gay public uses technology to increase their size or just lift their asses.

According to the beautician at Bioplástica Brasil, Dr. Anderson Bertolini, around 50 surgeries are performed per year on this population, which is still small and represents around 1% of the turnover in his office. “The number is not yet representative, however, it is a surgery that is arousing the interest of patients. The looks of others are always reasons to massage the ego, but mainly to meet personal desires for well-being.”

Demand is expected to increase in the coming years, mainly for two reasons. The first is the service description. “It's easier to face a doctor once than to work your butt off at the gym three times a week in front of everyone”, reveals a plastic surgery supporter who did not want to be identified. The other is the increase in the amount of liposuction. According to the doctor, “the fat removed from the patient [from liposuction] is prepared and placed on the buttocks”. It is the most popular procedure, as the cost is relatively low (R$6) compared to the R$10 spent to place a silicone prosthesis, similar to breast implant surgery.

The postoperative period of gluteoplasty performed with a prosthesis is the most complicated. It is not possible to sit for 15 days, there are recommended sleeping positions, special hygiene care, such as the use of a drain in the area to clean secretions and blood. “With liposuction, the patient can return to exercising after three weeks. With gluteoplasty, it is possible to return to normal life after a month, a month and a half.”

The surgery lasts between two and three hours and is performed in a single procedure. Depending on the person's structure, it is possible to add 200 to 400 ml of silicone. “The size depends on the waist and hips. 24-hour hospitalization is required, pre-operative and routine tests are required – blood tests, electro-cardiogram and coagulation tests. A straight cut of 4 to 5 cm is made near the cocyx to place the prosthesis. The stitches are removed after 15 days”, explains Bertolini.

According to Bertolini, there is also a laboratory procedure that is filling with PMMA (PolyMethylMetaAcrylate, a synthetic gel that adheres to the muscles, used in the bioplasty technique). “It is the third millennium procedure, with the advantages of being uncut, with local anesthesia, the patient can have injections normally in the buttocks, recovery takes just one week and the aesthetic result is surprisingly natural. No one says surgery was performed, unless the person says so.”
