“Homophobia and transphobia kill”, says Luciana Genro in a debate with presidential candidates

The first debate with candidates for the presidency of the Republic, promoted on Tuesday night (26), by Band, addressed prejudice towards the LGBT community at a specific moment.

Luciana Genro (PSOL) questioned the PSC candidate, Pastor Everaldo, about the suspension of the "School Without Homophobia" program by the government of Dilma Rousseff, from PT, and the effects it caused.

The candidate asked if Everaldo felt responsible for the deaths of homosexuals, since the program was vetoed "after pressure from the evangelical group", of which he is a member.

Disconcerted, the pastor said: "We have many needs in education. My commitment is to reestablishing the dignity of teachers. I have never been prejudiced, I have never been responsible for any death. There are no people more tolerant than Christians. We love all people ".

Luciana also declared in the debate: "The lack of education regarding these topics in schools is needed. This governance that President Dilma built is terrible for Brazil. Homophobia and transphobia kill. One member of the LGBT community is murdered every day because of prejudice".

Dilma, Aetius Neves (PSDB), Marina Silva (PSB), Eduardo Jorge (PV) and Levy Fidelix (PRTB) did not speak and were not asked about the issue of homophobia and transphobia in the country.
