Homophobia: Four gays are robbed, beaten and threatened with death in Rio

Four gay men were victims of homophobia last Thursday (8), when they were on a bus, heading to a gay club in Madureira, Rio de Janeiro.

They claimed to the newspaper O Dia that robbers broke into the bus and raided it. When they realized that the young people were gay, the robbers beat them and threatened them with death.

"You're gay, right? You're going to get beaten up, you fagots," the assailants allegedly said, before beginning the attacks. When the victims got off at Madureira Station, they were followed and beaten again, this time with broomsticks that were on the BRT.

Eric de Almeida, 19 years old, stated that he hid inside the bathroom and that the attackers threw alcohol under the compartment and said they would set it on fire. He and his friends – Gladson Fontes, Lucas Nascimento and a 16-year-old minor – were saved as soon as the police appeared, called by the station security and the attackers fled.

The attack was recorded on Friday (10) at the 29th DP of Madureira. The BRT press office will make the images available to the police.
