IGLTA holds meeting to discuss advances in LGBT tourism in Brazil

Casarão Brasil, in São Paulo, will host this Wednesday (8) the IGLTA (International Gay and Lesbian Tourism Association) meeting. The event's agenda will include advances in LGBT tourism in Brazil and the association's World Convention, which will take place in 2012 in Florianópolis.

According to Clóvis Casemiro (photo, left), responsible for IGLTA in the South and Southeast, the holding of the World Convention in Florianópolis represents the maturation of tourism for gays and lesbians in the country. "It's a very expensive convention and we expect to bring around 500 professionals", explains Casemiro. “To achieve this, we have been raising funds for at least three years,” he adds.

The World Convention in the capital of Santa Catarina will be the first in 28 years to be held outside the USA-Canada-Europe axis. "The fact that the Convention takes place in Brazil gives us many opportunities to sell the country as a gay-friendly destination with greater strength and probity", highlights Casemiro.

During the meeting at Casarão Brasil, IGLTA members will also debate the importance of LGBT tourism within the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO). "[The inclusion of IGLTA in the OMT] will give more visibility to LGBT businesses in general and will certainly treat the segment with more professionalism and awareness", believes Casemiro.

Participating in the meeting this Wednesday are John Tanzella, president and CEO of IGLTA, LoAnn Halden, media relations manager, Thusnelda Frick, from the Brasília Tourism Secretariat, Almir Nascimento, president of Abrat GLS, as well as several businesspeople from the sector .
