Church distributes “mothers’ hugs” to LGBTs expelled from home and rejected by their parents

Being LGBT still means dealing with family rejection and exclusion from some sectors of society. Aiming to provide support to these people, a church is distributing “mothers' hugs” to lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgender people who find themselves in this situation of social and emotional vulnerability. The moment happened at the initiative of mothers who are members of the Austin New Church conference and writer Jen Hatmaker during LGBT Pride week in Austin, Texas. The initiative has been going on since 2015, when Oklahoma author Sara Cunnigham, who had to deal with her own son's homosexuality, made a post on Facebook in 2015 volunteering to give free hugs to LGBT people who missed their families.
