Sudbury LGBTQ+ immigrant fears for his safety, calls for support

The LGBTQ+ immigrant known as Nihar is a queer person living in Sudbury, northern Ontario, who is currently concerned about his personal safety in light of the recent wave of hate crimes affecting the LGBTQ+ community. Nihar is looking for support and autonomy that would allow him to live a safer life.

Pleasant and always optimistic, Nihar is a friendly person who has chosen Sudbury as his home. However, growing intolerance and a climate of hostility are shaking his peace of mind.

In an interview with CTV News Northern Ontario, Nihar, who identifies as gender non-binary, revealed growing fears for her safety within the Sudbury community. This concern has become more intense due to recent events involving the Rainbow Community Center and the intentional defacing of the George Armstrong mural, both in Sudbury.
