The volleyball player Dennis Del Valle decided to share an ancient secret with the world. The 31-year-old Puerto Rican athlete came out of the closet.

Last weekend, he said in an interview with the Swiss website 24 Hours, he said that he hopes to have given confidence to other athletes who are afraid of coming out and suffering rejection.

After receiving support from several people, he made a post on Instagram thanking them. “I thought I was doing something nice and special for myself. I didn’t know how much I was doing for other people like me,” he wrote.

“I wanted to use this platform to not tell the world my story or who I am. But to try to inspire other people, kids, especially athletes who have no one to look up to! Thank you for your messages of appreciation, love and support. They are worth a lot in moments like this! I am eternally grateful”, he added.
