Trans Superliga player receives support from fans

Since the International Volleyball Federation recognized the Brazilian transsexual athlete Tifanny as capable of playing on women's teams, the player has suffered attacks from other athletes and fans due to her transsexuality. Aiming to reduce the wear and tear and emotional stress that this transphobic practice can cause to Tifanny's psychology, transgender fans have gathered to watch Bauru matches (the team in which the transsexual plays), to show support. In Bauru's recent match against Hinode Barueri, at Ginásio José Corrêa, a group of fans held up posters saying: “There are trans people in the stands. But also on the court.” In the ESPN report, transsexual activist Amara Moira, 32 years old, responsible for the initiative, commented on the matter. “I really liked sport, I followed football and supported Palmeiras. But it's a very sexist world and when I started to transition, I felt like I was no longer part of that space for fear of aggression, of violence. I distanced myself completely, but Tifanny brought me back to the sport. If she can be on the court, I can be in the stands,” she said. Regarding the supposed advantage that Tifanny would have over other players, Amara questions: “You have to look at his performance in a broad sense: he scores a lot of points, but he has deficiencies. In defense it is not as good as in attack. There are players who hit as hard as her. It is only reflected in this number that Tandara has already equaled”, she concluded. Fans from the city of Bauru have also organized themselves and brought a different crowd to the club's gym, Panela de Pressão. The 'Gigantes do Vôlei' has even worn a personalized t-shirt, saying 'Somos Tifanny' and they have already given the opponent the affectionate nickname 'Super Tifanny'.
