Young cook reports co-worker for discrimination

The news was published on the Cidade Verde website. The young Cléber Henrique Miranda, 22 years old, who works as a cook at the University Restaurant (RU) of the Federal University of Piauí, reported this Thursday, 25/10, at the Specialized Police Station for the Repression of Discriminatory Conduct, his co-worker, José Bishop, for discrimination due to his sexual orientation.

According to the article, Cléber stated that for around two years, José Bispo treated him in a prejudiced way, with insults and graffiti in the restaurant's bathroom. "He spray-painted the bathroom with my name, saying I'm a faggot. Furthermore, half of the restaurant's employees don't speak to me because of his influence. I couldn't take this situation any longer and that's why I decided to report it", revealed the young man.

According to Kátia Esteves, head of the police station, around 50 reports of discriminatory conduct arrive at the police station. "We receive 50 incidents per month, with 40% of the complaints being racial insults", informed the delegate.

In the case of Cléber, the case will be classified as an insult. According to the delegate, after being judged, the accused can perform community service as a form of punishment. "In a recent case, the accused was sentenced to provide services at the Homosexual Assistance Center. I believe that her sentence will be the same" declared the delegate.
