Young man is stabbed to death by his boyfriend in Ribeirão Preto

Economics student Heber Galante Assalim, aged 22, was murdered by his boyfriend, Carlos Portugal, aged 38, after an argument, in Ribeirão Preto, in the interior of São Paulo. The young man was stabbed to death. According to information from friends and family, the couple had been dating for about a year and a few months ago they decided to live together. Heber was born in Sertãozinho, the city where he was buried, and had gone to Ribeirão Preto to study economics at the University of São Paulo (USP). The young man lived in a Republic with friends, before going to his boyfriend's apartment, in the Jardim Botânico neighborhood, South Zone of the city. Friends of the couple said the two did not appear to have any problems in their relationship. However, according to an interview with the victim's sister, Sara Galante, on Rede Record, the suspect was “obsessive” and “controlling”. According to her, her brother was going to end the relationship because he could no longer handle his partner's jealousy. In a statement to the police, the couple's neighbors said they had heard several arguments between the two in recent months. Assalim was rescued alive and taken to the Emergency Unit of Hospital das Clínicas, where he underwent surgery, but he succumbed to his injuries and died. The family calls for justice.
