Young lesbian is attacked by colleague's mother and grandfather and says she was a victim of homophobia

A 16-year-old teenager was physically attacked by the mother and grandfather of a schoolmate this past Monday (12), in the city of Bela Vista de Goiás, Metropolitan Region of Goiânia.

The attack took place inside a classroom at a state school in the city center. According to Iris Alves Pinto, head delegate of Bela Vista, the reason for the violence was homophobia, as the young woman is an open lesbian.

As for the attackers, they say that the victim was threatening her 14-year-old classmate. "According to the family of the girl under 14, the 16-year-old girl attacked her and all the grandfather and mother did was separate them", says the police chief.

The 14-year-old minor also said that she never made fun of her colleague's sexual orientation or defamed her for it. "She even believes that the cause of the disturbances and death threats from her 16-year-old classmate is because she refused the advances to date her or have any romantic involvement with her", explains Alves Pinto.

As both cases deal with an alleged assault on a minor, the prosecutor at the local Public Prosecutor's Office will determine the socio-educational measure for the young women.
