Portuguese judoka Célio Dias comes out as gay and reveals that he tried to commit suicide

The Portuguese Olympic athlete, Célio Dias, came out as homosexual in an interview with the newspaper Record, and revealed that he attempted suicide twice, because he did not know how to deal with defeats at the beginning of his career. The judoka, who participated in the Olympic competition at the Rio de Janeiro games in 2016, made history in Portuguese sports by becoming the first Olympic athlete in the country to publicly admit his homosexuality. “I always understood myself as homosexual,” he said. Célio now states that he will train to look for a place in the Tokyo Olympic Games, which will take place in 2020. “I have one more year to qualify and it is during this period that the results in the tests are most valuable in the ranking”, he said .
