Katy Perry sends message to Brazilian fan who survived homophobic attack

The young man from Pernambuco Jefferson Anderson Feijó da Cruz, 23, survived a brutal homophobic attack in 2018 that left him unable to walk, speak and have no cognitive functions. In December of that year, a man stoned, beat and raped him.

A huge fan of Katy Perry, Jefferson reacts with joy when he listens to the singer's music. His mother recorded one of these moments in a video that has been circulating on social media in recent days. Soon after, the singer's fans rallied around her to learn the story of the young man from Moreno, a city in the metropolitan region of Recife.

“I love him, his strength makes me smile,” Perry wrote in a tweet.

Afterwards, fans mobilized to raise funds so that Jefferson's mother could continue taking care of him and the boy could have the necessary medical care he needed. Many have tagged the singer in posts on Twitter and Instagram, as you can see below.
