Anti-gay law prevents political leaders from attending the Winter Games in Russia

Apparently, major political leaders are avoiding Russia. The country, which has approved several measures against the LGBT community and prohibits any type of gay demonstration or propaganda, is at risk of being boycotted.

With the 2014 Winter Olympics approaching, which will be held in the Russian city of Socchi, authorities have already stated that they will not attend the event.

German President Joachim Gauck had already declared his rejection of the country's rules. Now, French Foreign Minister Laurente Fabius has announced that no French official intends to attend the Games.

In addition to political figures, the sporting event has received a strong boycott from celebrities and members of sports organizations. A petition to Coca-Cola, the main sponsor of the Games, was created for the brand to speak out against Russian policies.
