Australian lesbians lose case against fertility clinic

An unnamed lesbian couple lost a lawsuit against an IVF clinic in Australia after having twins instead of just one child as planned. The information is from the agency Associated Press.

A court in the country ruled that giving birth to a healthy baby is not an argument for a lawsuit, the first of its kind in Australia.

The couple, who already have two 4-year-old daughters, wanted to sue obstetrician Sydney Armellin, asking for compensation of US$382 for negligence and failure in the fertilization process.

But according to Judge Annabel Bennett, the mother who gave birth to the child acted “negligently” by not informing the clinic staff that she would not like to have two embryos implanted.

The couple's lawyer, Thena Kyprianou, said they will try to appeal the court's decision.
