It is not new that singer Mara Maravilha has attacked the LGBT community with fundamentalist comments. On Wednesday the 23rd, Mara, when commenting on the sex change of the character Ivana, who will now, according to her gender identity, be called Ivan, repeated the evangelical cliché that “God made Adam and Eve, now they invented Adam and Ivo.” Maravilha goes on to say that “we have to respect it, but to procreate, it’s still a man with a woman and a woman with a man”. All she had to do was say that it is heterosexuals who often abandon their children to their fate in orphanages and on the streets. The statement had a negative impact on social media, and the artist was criticized by internet users for her transphobic and homophobic comments over the last few years. In the Thursday 24th edition, using her artistic gifts, Mara Maravilha “cried” live and, “feeling ill”, had to be rescued by the broadcaster’s fire department. “I was very upset with what happened from yesterday to today. I had a bad night. I cried a lot. If I offended, forgive me. My intention is to be honest with my thoughts. I'm not homophobic. I am very sad about this situation.” We, LGBTs, know very well that LGBTphobes never admit their prejudice and intolerance, instead, they express their anger in the form of opinions... we just cannot forget that innocent lives are taken every year because of comments and “opinions” like these .
